The Civic LX Beats the 2014 Chevy Cruze LS on Fuel Economy
If you’re looking for a fuel efficient and well-equipped small car, you might be looking at a vehicle like the 2014 Chevy Cruze LS, if only for its fuel economy. But while the Cruze is reasonably efficient, the 2014 Honda Civic LX offers you a more efficient—and more powerful—engine.
And that’s not even counting all of the great features on the Civic.
How Honda Comes Out Ahead
Fuel economy matters so much more these days than it used to, with gas prices climbing and not showing any sign of letting up. Even the smallest difference in numbers can mean big long term savings.
Drivers of the 2014 Honda Civic LX with automatic transmission get an EPA-estimated 39 mpg on the highway and 30 mpg in the city,* but if you choose the Cruze LS, you’ll only get 37 highway mpg and 27 city mpg. Like we said, those are savings that will add up.
Honda’s engine is also more powerful, with 143 hp to the 138 hp of the Cruze. Again, it’s a little difference, but an engine that is more efficient and more powerful is a sign of better engineering.
If that’s not enough, don’t forget that Honda has revitalized the idea of the “standard features” package, and vehicles like the entry-level Civic LX come with Bluetooth HandsFreeLink for phone and audio, a touchscreen interface, a rearview camera, and so much more.
The Cruze has some comparable features, but to get it on par with the Civic would require upgrades beyond the basic LS trim level.
