December 2nd, 2016 by

2017 Honda FitThe 2017 Honda Fit is wowing hatchback drivers in the Tri-State area. With its better than average space, top-rated fuel economy, ample features, and affordable price, the Fit has solidified itself as a leader in the subcompact hatch market. We stacked it up against its top competitors and the Honda Fit easily came out on top.

Pep in a Hatchback

The Honda Fit is quickly changing drivers’ opinions on hatchbacks lacking power. The Fit comes equipped with a 1.5L 16-valve I4 engine standard that blasts out 130 hp @ 6,600 rpm. The 2016 Toyota Yaris 5-door 4AT can only put out 103 hp @ 6,000 rpm, while the 2016 Nissan Versa Note S Plus is rated at 107 hp @ 6,000 rpm. The 2016 Kia Rio 5-door LX is capable of 138 hp, but only @ 6,300 rpm, making the Fit the most powerful hatchback on the market.

Runaway Efficiency

Big power can often mean low mpg.  Not so with the Honda Fit. The Fit LX CVT boasts an impressive EPA-estimated 33 city/40 highway/36 combined mpg rating,* making for a super-efficient and high-performing subcompact. The Yaris, Versa, and Rio are rated at 32, 34, and 30 combined mpg, respectively. If you’re looking for an environmentally friendly car that won’t hit you in the wallet at the pump, the Honda Fit is the clear choice.

A Loaded Hatchback

The 2017 Honda Fit boasts 95.7 cubic feet of passenger volume while the Yaris, Versa, and Rio only have 85.1, 94.1, 88.4 cubic feet of passenger volume, meaning the Honda Fit can seat your road trip crew more comfortably than the other hatchback choices. Plus, the Fit was rated 5 stars in all crash tests by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.** The Yaris fell short in four of the NHTSA’s crash test categories, and the Rio didn’t make the grade in six of the categories. The Versa has not yet been rated by the NHTSA. Safety and comfort make for a winning combination on any drive.
